[ARCHIVED] Crews to Begin Applying Foam to Extinguish Fire Pockets

NEWS RELEASE

Crew To Begin Applying Foam to Extinguish Fire Pockets

(October 5, 2011) Beginning early this aftenoon, contracted crews will begin applying a non-toxic foam to extinguish the small remaining pockets of fire remaining at the Magnablend Central FacilityThe foam being used is a standard fire fighting foam and is diluted with water on-site and applied to create a blanket to extinguish the remaining fire. Applying this foam will assist in completely extinguishing the fire. When the fire is completely out, it is anticipated that many of the remaining foul odors from the smoke will be drastically reduced.

The Environmental Protection Agency is continuously monitoring air quality in the area of the fire and downwind from the site and as of noon Wednesday have not detected significant levels of chemicals in the air.

Ellis County will continue to keep residents informed of all issues related to air quality or any other issues that might arise as a result of Monday’s fire. For health related questions, two numbers have been established for citizens to call for more information. Residents may call Ellis County at 972-825-5194, or the Department of State Health Services at 817-264-4949. Both of these numbers will be answered Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.
