[ARCHIVED] Ellis County Historical Courthouse Celebrates Milestone with Austin Couple

Ellis County Historical Courthouse Celebrates Milestone with Austin Couple

After 24 months, and 14,500 miles traveled visiting each courthouse in the State, an Austin couple decided to marry in their favorite courthouse, the Ellis County Courthouse in Waxahachie. Officiating the wedding for the Mason’s was County Judge Carol Bush, “It was such a unique story. I was contacted by Aaron Mason and Anne Cornell, a couple from Austin. They had discovered what we in Ellis County already knew: that we had the most beautiful courthouse in the state and some of the friendliest people in all of its 254 counties. Yes, they had toured them all! Ann and Aaron asked me to perform their wedding ceremony in the large historic courtroom.

I have to say that it was one of the most charming and fun ceremonies that I have performed. Friends were seated in the gallery and the family occupied the jury box to witness and celebrate the couple’s vows. It was relaxed despite a local television station filming. A courthouse-themed poem was read by the ‘jury’, vows were exchanged, and with a bang of my gavel, I pronounced them husband and wife.”
