On April 25, 2017, at 2:07 p.m., Charles “Chuck” Edge was sworn in as the new Sheriff of Ellis County. The ceremony was held during Commissioners Court and included brief remarks by County Judge Carol Bush.

“When we asked Chief Edge what his vision and expectations were for Ellis County, he said five words: ethics, leadership, loyalty, integrity and service to the public,” Judge Bush recalled.  “His vision and expectation is that these five ideals will become the core mission of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.”

Sheriff Edge is familiar to many Waxahachie residents since he was the Chief of Police for the City of Waxahachie from 2007 – 2014, when he retired. He has served many years in law enforcement, as well as a Flight Engineer/Aircraft Maintenance Manager for the United States Army.

“We are delighted to welcome Sheriff Edge to the Ellis County family,” Judge Bush said. “For me personally, I look forward to a developing a solid working relationship with the new Sheriff and his department.”

After being sworn in by Judge Bush and handed his badge, the new Sheriff approached each Commissioner and shook hands. The packed courtroom burst into applause when Judge Bush introduced the new Ellis County Sheriff, Chuck Edge.
