“184 Total Cases of COVID-19 in Ellis County”

May 1, 2020 - The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has notified the Ellis County Local Health Authority of five additional confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 and thirteen new recoveries in Ellis County. This increases the countywide total to 184 cases of COVID-19, including 122 recoveries.

 One of the additional cases of COVID-19 includes a male resident of Glenn Heights, age 40. The remaining four cases are residents of the City of Waxahachie. These four cases include a 23 year-old male, a 39 year-old male, a 42 year-old male, and an 84 year-old female resident of the Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation facility in Waxahachie.

As of today, DHSH has reported 1,549 tests administered in Ellis County. Updates can be found on their website at https://www.dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/additionaldata/. Additionally, with coordination through the State of Texas, Ellis County will be hosting a one day FREE mobile testing location at the Waxahachie Sports Complex (See the graphic below) tomorrow. All tests administered are by appointment only, due to limited testing units. Eligible residents will drive to the testing location upon the time of the scheduled appointment and be notified by phone of the results.

To be eligible for testing, you must have at least one of the following symptoms:

  • Fever and/or chills
  • Cough (Dry or Productive)
  • Fatigue
  • Body aches/muscle or joint pain
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Sore Throat
  • Headaches
  • Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea
  • Nasal Congestion
  • Loss of Taste and/or Smell
