On Tuesday, September 29, the Commissioners’ Court voted unanimously 5-0 to adopt the "No New Revenue" tax rate of $0.350276 per $100 of assessed value and the FY 2020/2021 Ellis County Budget.

“As a Commissioners' Court working to reduce the burdens on citizens, we set a conservative cap for a tax rate at a reduced rate from the year before,” said Ellis County Judge Todd Little. “We listened to our citizens and public comments, and as a court we approved a tax rate set at the "No New Revenue" rate; maintaining your confidence as citizens that we are working to reduce your tax burden.”

“As a county we are venturing through uncharted waters this year”, said Judge Little. “As a Commissioners’ Court it was imperative that we mitigate operational increases due to economic uncertainty that exists going forward. This includes the decision of no salary increases for elected officials or county employees across most departments with the exception of our investment in public safety. The FY 2020-21 budget is a balanced fiscal plan that promotes high performance and transparency, calculated financial allocation to reduce wasteful government spending, and continues our county’s second consecutive year of supporting capital improvements and our focus to retain, train, and acquire top talent in law enforcement to better serve the needs of Ellis County citizens.”

The approved total tax rate reduces the general fund balance on maintenance and operations, and farm-to-market by a total of $313,000. The county reserve balances will be utilized to fund the reduced approved tax rate.
