[ARCHIVED] National Religious Freedom Day Proclamation

National Religious Freedom Day

WHEREAS, Our Nation’s forefathers sought after the hope of freedom from religious persecution and the opportunity to live freely above sanctions on faith; and

WHEREAS, They recognized that religious freedom is not a gift by a governing body, but it is a fundamental human right; and

WHEREAS, This right has been tried and proven, in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, to be deemed necessary of tenacious defense; and

WHEREAS, We recognize Ellis County has been built upon men and women who have exercised these religious liberties with integrity, honesty, and sincerity; and

WHEREAS, the exercise of faith has established a community of respect and equality; and

WHEREAS, Together, we recognize and affirm the First Amendment of the United States Constitution in that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Todd Little, Ellis County Judge, Recognize the Statute of Religious Freedom of 1786, and hereby declare January 16, 2019, as Religious Freedom Day in Ellis County. May every resident show reverence toward the religious liberties granted to each one of us and honor the sacrifice to uphold these rights.

- Ellis County Judge Todd Little
